Carol Toodle opened Carol’s Variety Shop #1 on Wilson Street in downtown Plymouth, NC on March 1, 1994. The success of the first variety shop and the need for a local eatery encouraged Carol to open Carol’s Variety Shop #2 a short distance away on East Main Street.  On February 8, 1998, Carol opened Carol’s Variety Shop #2. It is larger than Carol’s Variety Shop #1 and includes a grill that is open every day of the year except for one week in July.

Carol learned how to cook from her mother and two grandmothers. In order to help her family, she started cooking for them when she was 12 years old. You might say that Carol grew up fast and learned the secrets of good cooking at an early age. Carol has since taught others to cook including Kendra who has been cooking for four years at Carol’s. Some of the popular foods include Carol’s Big Breakfast, turkey wings, barbecue chicken, southern fried chicken, seafood and pork barbecue. Desserts are rotated, and are homemade by Carol in the evening. These include sweet potato pie, coconut pie, chocolate cake and lemon cake.

Carol Toodle’s Uncle owned a variety store. Carol was drawn to this store and could be found helping out her uncle at the early age of nine years old.  Her enjoyment of working with people led Carol to become an insurance agent.  After a while she was drawn back to the variety store business because of her love of providing excellent goods and services to people.  Carol is passionate about her business. Her customers are her friends. Carol works every day of the year except for one week in July.  The care she has for the people in her community gives her an incredible amount of energy to provide excellent food and service always.

   Really awesome !!

   Really nice place to eat, I enjoyed my Pork Chop Dinner and Sweet Potato Pie while leaving my son in CT's Barbershop to get a haircut from Carol's Son CT. Really nice atmosphere and nice people, will return soon.

   I remember the last time I seem Ms. Carol its been many years ago in plymouth at her store she was always plesant and sweet. I was always buying some hair, and she always had what I needed. Your the best!

   Truely a VARIETY shop

   The cook at this store Kendra is amazing she knows extactly how I like my food and has a very warm personality. She is the best!! Her and Ms. Carol together make the BEST FOOD!!! This is a place for you to get a good meal and a good hair do! I just love it!
