Chef Biography

Doris & Roger's Kitchen

Doris has always loved cooking and was told by many friends and relatives after preparing holiday meals that she should own a restaurant one day. Little did she know then, that one day she would. Doris is the oldest daughter of Revelle and Haywood Harrell, raised on a farm so she always helped cook meals while growing up with a family of five siblings. Delicious daily specials priced just right bring customers back often. All natural beef, fresh fish, moist chicken, country ham, NC pork barbecue, and other scrumptious foods are paired with regional produce and sides. Doris' special homemade desserts such as Doris' Blondie and Hot Fudge Brownie will completely satisfy you. Roger prepares host of the main dishes, soups, and chili. Doris and Roger's cook staff of Jordan Brooks and Kathy MoCherman help Doris and Roger to prepare meals with pride.

Owner Biography

Doris & Roger's Kitchen

Doris started working at Art's Kitchen in Gates County. Art and Clara saw the potential in Doris and soon told her to pay attention to everything. She did and it paid off as she purchased Art's Kitchen less than a year later. Eight years later, Doris and Roger purchased property and built what is now a beautiful restaurant - Doris and Roger's Kitchen. The previous landowners Lloyd and Katherine Hayes loved the business being there and used to drive around and count the cars on Sundays. They were very excited to see the property develop into such a successful business. Now, Doris and Roger have a strong following of customers. Doris and Roger thank each customer for dining with them.

    Hometown Atmosphere, Good Food
Good food, good service. I'm one of the local patrons and we visit Doris & Rogers several times a week. The atmosphere is relaxed and homey. Locals visit and talk about their day over a good meal. The breakfast is very good and so is their daily specials. Desserts are yummy. If you haven't visited Doris and Rogers you don't know what you're missing. :)

    Outstanding Service
Please accept my sincere appreciation for the outstanding service that your team at Doris and Roger's Kitchen provided to my motorcycle riding crewmembers in Harry S. Truman during our Rodeo for Motorcycle Safety. Most notably, the care received from Sarah, Judy, and Cameron - superb! On behalf of Team Truman, thank you, and know that we look forward to future opportunities to visit your restaurant. Moreover, if I ever find myself on Route 13 in North Carolina, I will be sure to stop in for what I am told is the best barbecue in the state.
