Mako Mike’s opened in Kill Devil Hills in 1996. It was the vision of Mike Kelly and Frank Gajar to create a restaurant with great energy, beautiful ambiance and casually elegant cuisine. They have succeeded beyond their expectations. Mako Mike’s is now known throughout the Outer Banks and beyond as the restaurant to eat in for creatively delicious food in an imaginatively inviting atmosphere.
Lead Chef Fred Virgil has over thirty five years of experience cooking. The recipes used at Mako Mike’s are original recipes. The menu includes traditional seafood favorites that everyone loves, such as: Golden Fried Shrimp, Crab Cakes, Alaskan Snow Crab Legs and Blackened or Grilled Fresh Gulf Stream Fish. Land lubbers enjoy Slow Roasted Prime Rib, Filet Mignon, Delmonico Steaks and specialty pork and chicken dishes. Delicious Pastas, Pizzas cooked in a wood fired oven, fresh blue water fish and a host of appetizers and salads are prepared with the freshest ingredients. Delicate emphasis is used with fresh herbs and wines to create complimenting sauces. And you must save room for a fabulous homemade dessert.
Mike Kelly and Frank Gajar have been successful restaurant owners for many years on the Outer Banks. Mike Kelly also owns two other wonderful restaurants on the Outer Banks – Kelly’s and Pamlico Jacks. Frank Gajar owns the renowned Port of Call Restaurant on the Outer Banks. They have joined their collective experience to create the enormously popular Mako Mike’s. As one diner exclaimed, “we eat at Mako Mikes restaurant all of the time because the food and service are the best”.

- Great tapas place!
- A friend and I dined there on Saturday. The bar has a really fun, laid-back atmosphere but still with great service. We had the oysters cassoulet, the seared ahi tuna, and the coconut shrimp. It's a great place for wine and tapas!
We come here regularly. It is really good.
