The Orange Blossom was originally a motel by the same name. In the 1950’s, the Barrett family, who were the original owners, planted an orange tree (which grew to full size) behind the motel. A picture of the tree hangs on the wall of the bakery.
Marsha Hanssen is the manager of The Orange Blossom. Marsha, who is from Henderson, NC, vacationed with her grandfather on the island as a child, and relocated there in 1995 after enjoying a career as a pharmacy technician.
Charlie Pereira is the owner. He vacationed on the island; and after retiring from a Washington, DC, job, moved to Dare County and purchased the bakery.
