History
Spanky’s Grille is located at Milepost 3.5, next to Jimmy’s Seafood Buffet and across the street from Hooters. Just look for the sign with a picture of a monkey holding a hot dog.
Built from the ground up, the name originally came from two of Jennifer’s cousins, nicknamed ‘The Spankys'. The idea of using a monkey as their ‘mascot’ came from Jennifer’s husband Ben, and since then, customers have been bringing in stuffed animal monkeys, which Jennifer and Ben put on display in the restaurant. Don’t forget to check out the gift shop before leaving.
Chef Biography
You will usually find Jennifer managing the kitchen in the back, with Ben taking orders and servicing customers in the front. They are supported by a dedicated and loyal staff. The “newest” employee has been working there for two years. The Spanky’s team strives to offer superior customer service. As Ben would say, “Don’t give anyone a reason not to come back!”
Owner Biography
Ben and Jennifer Zak opened Spanky’s Grille in 2003. Both husband and wife previously worked many years in the restaurant industry, doing everything from waiting tables to greeting people at the front door. A few places they previously worked are: Jimmy’s Seafood, The Wharf, George’s Junction, and Coastal Cactus. Having worked so many years in the restaurant industry, Ben and Jennifer wanted to offer a place where food was as fast as fast-food, but home-cooked and made-to-order like fine dining. They accomplish this by operating only one register, keeping a single line of customers and a steady flow of orders going into the kitchen.
